Montvale Park in Bedford County

Montvale Park

Three soccer fields, parking areas, an entrance road, picnic shelter and the preparation of areas that will house a rest room and play equipment, have been completed. With funding approved in the 2013-2014 County budget, decisions are to be made concerning the construction of play equipment, a restroom, walking trails, a bridge and/or other park amenities.

This park is located on land adjacent to Montvale Elementary School on Route 460/221 and will primarily serve the population in the western areas of the County. Walking/biking trails have been completed in the southern portion of the park and will be connected, by bridge, to trails to be constructed in the northern section of the park property.

The Nature Conservancy (TNC) has completed extensive wetland development and enhancements to areas along the south branch of Goose Creek that flows through the park. This project was funded entirely through TNC and trails will be developed within the project area allowing students and others to enjoy the area and to use the area as an outdoor classroom to garner the associated environmentally oriented learning experiences that this site provides.

This park site, 129 acres, like Bedford County’s other park sites, will retain a vast majority of its acreage in its natural state with its creek, open natural fields and woodlands.
