The Bedford County Board of Supervisors created the Bedford County Parks and Recreation Department in March 1984.

Since then, this department has focused on providing a wide range of recreational offerings for the citizens of Bedford County, including youth sports, senior activities, and special events such as mountain bike races or Movies in the Park.
